PTFE – Polytetrafluoroethylene is a synthetic fluorocarbon solid composed of carbon and fluorine. This is very non-reactive thus when used as lubricant, it is capable waning friction, wear and reduces energy consumption too. Accidentally discovered by Plunkett in 1938, PTFE is widely used now to seal pipes and cover valves. Fifty percent (50%) of PTFE consumption is used in aerospace wiring. It also fuels hydraulic lines, coating surfaces of hydraulic lines to improve flow. PTFE are popularly used in cooking non-stick pans.
