MSN – Manufacturer’s Serial Number
MSN – Manufacturer’s Serial Number is a unique number or code assigned to a unit. These numbers are usually arranged in sequence. It can be a combination of letters, a letter and numbers ending with digits. Serial numbers is purposely to deter counterfeit products. They are very important in quality control as well. Serial numbers can trace which batch of item is defective in some cases. In the military air forces, serial numbers uniquely identify the aircraft and are usually indicated on the fin or rudders of the plane. Example of aircraft serial number is written this way – msn 30020B.745 first flight Jan 2004.
