CSN – Cycles since new
CSN – Cycles since new (applies to engine components). Engine component cycles are noted carefully. The number of flight cycles determines whether an aircraft component requires overhaul. For instance, an aircraft engine must be removed after 5,000 cycles for overhauling maintenance regardless of performance. The hard time maintenance philosophy is not at all concerned about the component conditions as soon as the cycle limits are reached. Engines are simply removed and scheduled for overhauling. After the first overhaul from the time since new, the flight cycle is recorded as zero from the Time Since Overhaul (TSO) until the 5000 flight cycle limits.
