CVR – Cockpit voice recorder
CVR – Cockpit voice recorder is a type of flight recorder that records pertinent sounds essentially helpful during investigations. It records the microphone and earphone signals transmitted through the pilot’s headset. CVR can record 4 audio channels for 2 hours. The average required recording time set by FAA is 30 minutes however it was recommended to extend this to 2 hours. All sounds such as explosions, screams, noise, conversations can be heard in the cockpit voice recorder. CVRs use single reel. The latest CVRs use digital recording because they can resist shock and vibration. CVRs are often mounted in the empennage (the airplane’s tail) to increase crash survival.
